A very shiny Parsh and a surprisingly dead tree I somehow hadn’t noticed before.
“H ey, look at me, I’m fun!” says the nice shiny little sports car, cleaned up, fried eggs gleaming in the sun.
“But I already HAVE a sports car, ” c ame my reply.
“Yes, but I’m different! I’m exotic! I’m surprisingly affordable at this point in my depreciation curve!”
“You don’t have big ‘Murican torque though!” - me
“Yes, but I’m nimble and light, and mid engined.”
“But my car’s just been paid off!”
“So you can afford ME now, can’t you?”
“Also I don’t really have a place for you, and you won’t fit my mountain bike.”
“But m y brake calipers are RED! You like red.”
Damnit. It’s got a point there.

You should buy a 986...they are so very good! Best steering feel and shifter action out of the cars that I've ever driven

“ and you won’t fit my mountain bike.”
Factory roof rack option!
Also works with the top down:

Don’t test drive one or you'll really be in trouble

Woah weird! I assume it sits high enough to allow the top to operate? If so, NEAT!
Although if I’m racking something like this, I’d probably go with a sea sucker and go full James-Bond Lotus Esprit.

IIRC, you have to remove the rack frames before opening/closing the top, which isn’t ideal, though I think they are supposed to go on and off pretty easily.

This.

Correct, top does not operate once rack is attached.

So sad...

Highly recommended, assuming you can do some of the maintenance and you get a good PPI with oil samples .
I’d suggest a 986.2 (03-04) - slight power bump (esp low end) , glove box, better top. Also b etter looks, but that is subjective. I ended up with a 2003 base 2.7, at the time (2012) the 3.2 wasn’t worth the extra people were asking. No one ever says “I wish I got the smaller engine” but the difference in price between the two paid for a new clutch and IMS two years later. Paint the calipers red if you really want to (red only came with the S).

Buy it. Nobody I’ve met who’s bought one, regardless of situation, has regretted it. Even when the car gave them grief, they still love it.

Almost bought a 911 with a spent engine this way.

8 years later and still no regrets with my Cayman. Just drove it today for no particular reason, just felt like driving . This happens at least once a week, so you’ll need to set aside some time.

See, this is why I’m not allowed to talk to other cars... Don’t want the T-bird to think I’m cheating...

Stop it! I’m shopping for a 3-row SUV or a minivan. I don’t need this temptation!
A woman with three young kids pulled up to the ice cream shop yesterday in one like this. See, they’re practical!
Stop it!
